Each material cares for rough, overworked skin, structures the composition, and shapes how its protective richness moves and settles during active, everyday wear.

For the Skin

Raw shea butter forms the generous conditioning center of Rough Patch. Naturally rich in stearic and oleic acids, it brings lasting softness and pliability to thick, dry skin while giving the composition its substantial body.

Cupuaçu butter adds moisture retention and cushion. Its ability to take up and hold moisture helps dry skin remain more flexible while keeping the composition responsive rather than rigid or salve-like.

Naturally rich in linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids, blueberry seed oil provides lighter conditioning that balances the heavier butters and beeswax. Tamanu oil brings more concentrated care for skin that has been weathered, rubbed, or repeatedly put to work.

Within the Composition

Virgin beeswax gives Rough Patch its protective structure and persistence. It helps limit moisture loss while allowing the butter to remain present through friction and repeated wear.

Mango butter softens that wax-forward framework, adding pliability and a smoother response to body heat. Ucuuba butter provides the counterbalance: firm, supportive body alongside intensive conditioning for rough, stressed skin.

Together, these materials make Rough Patch substantial without becoming immobile - firm enough to stay where it is placed, but responsive enough to soften and move against the body.

Natural vitamin E tocopherols help preserve the freshness and integrity of the oils and butters over time while contributing additional conditioning to the finished composition.

On the Skin

Arrowroot powder refines the movement of Rough Patch. Its fine starch takes up excess surface oil and reduces tack as the butter spreads, giving an intentionally rich composition a silkier, more manageable glide.

White kaolin clay refines what remains. It helps manage excess surface oil and leaves a cleaner, softer finish without diminishing the protective richness underneath.

The optional peppermint essential oil in Rough Patch is a single-batch oil distilled in Oregon in collaboration with St. Hilaire Family Farms. More nuanced than conventional peppermint. 

Together, these materials create the balance Rough Patch needs: firm enough to remain where it is placed, rich enough for genuinely dry skin, protective without feeling sealed over, and refined enough for active, everyday wear.

Rough Patch is firm in the tin. Scrape up a small amount with the back of a fingernail and place it where it is needed. Its firmness gives you time to spread it over rough skin, almost like a paste, before slowly working it in with your fingers.

With warmth, the butter softens into a smooth, comfortable finish. It remains present on the skin but settles fairly quickly for something so substantial.

In the peppermint version, the cool peppermint aroma becomes noticeable during application.

Rough Patch is the firmer butter, made for thicker skin and places that take repeated wear. Boundary is softer and more responsive to the areas where skin folds, meets, and moves against itself.
