On Nipples, Lips + Care That Travels
Nipples & Lips - Not So Different
From time to time, we see conversations surface about using nipple products as lip balm - usually framed as a clever workaround or a "hack" for when you're in a pinch.
But that curiosity is grounded in something deeper than just a quick fix. The overlap between these two areas isn't just accidental; it’s anatomical.
Both the lips and the nipples are what biologists call transition zones.
These areas lack the "armor" the rest of our body carries - there is no thick outer layer of dead skin cells, and very few oil glands to provide self-lubrication. Instead, these areas are thin, highly vascular, and packed with sensory nerve endings.
Both the nipples and lips are uniquely sensitive and easily disrupted by wind, cold, dryness, and friction. Both respond best to nourishment that is rich but uncomplicated - protective without being heavy, supportive without interfering.
Nipple Products - Not All the Same
Many nipple products are formulated specifically for short-term postpartum use and may contain antiseptics, antifungals, or other medicated ingredients.
Others rely on lanolin - a traditional and deeply emollient choice that many people, including us, love and use successfully in richer formulas such as our lip masks. It can feel wonderfully occlusive and comforting where that heavy blanket of protection is exactly what the skin wants.
That said, lanolin doesn’t agree with everyone. For certain skin types - especially with repeated use on very thin or frequently irritated tissue - it can occasionally lead to sensitivity.
Because of this, we chose a different direction for our Nipple Butter: a plant-based formula centered on cupuaçu as a gentle, breathable alternative. It delivers rich hydration and softening while remaining light enough for everyday use on both nipples (and lips) without the potential for that heavier feel.
Some formulas also include water, which often requires synthetic preservatives — something worth considering when a product will be used near the mouth or on other especially sensitive surfaces on a regular basis.
Our Approach
Every ingredient in this composition was chosen for how it performs on sensitive skin: how it softens, how it settles, and how it remains present without interfering.
The formula is intentionally simple: seven all-natural ingredients, with no lanolin, no water, and no preservatives or medications.
At its heart is cupuaçu butter — a deeply hydrating botanical that holds moisture, softens delicate skin, and stays breathable while absorbing cleanly.
It nourishes without overwhelming, and settles beautifully even with the constant movement and exposure nipples (and lips) face every day.
There’s something quietly delightful in this:
What you reach for as a lip balm is, at its core, still a nipple butter - and what comforts your lips during the day can just as easily comfort your nipples.
(and other places, too)
Our Nipple Butter was made first for the most delicate barriers, yet its gentle nature means it can travel almost anywhere on the body - tender folds of skin, chafed spots, or anywhere that feels thin, dry, or overworked.
The same simple care, moving freely wherever your body asks for it.
Of course - every/body is different.
Individual sensitivities, allergies, and conditions vary, and only you can determine what is appropriate for your own use - whether through personal experience, research, or guidance from a trusted source. Be mindful of cross-contamination - wash your hands before using the product.
We share our ingredient choices openly through our Maker’s Notes 'Ingredients Deep Dive" and "Questions Worth Asking" so you can understand exactly what you’re choosing.

Care begins with awareness.
What You'll Notice
This wasn’t a product we decided to repurpose.
It’s something we noticed.
Over time, we found ourselves - and others - reaching for this same butter on dry, stressed lips.
Not as a novelty, but because it worked.
An Intentional Fit
Our Pocket-Ready Nipple Butter is simply that same formula in a format that makes this kind of use easy and clean.
Nothing new. Nothing reformulated. Just a recognition of how good care actually gets used.
Sometimes care begins there.
On Use + Practice
Care is shaped as much by repetition as by ingredients.
The way a balm is warmed between the hands. The moment attention returns to a part of the body usually passed over. The small gestures that slowly become familiar enough to feel like instinct.
Use + Practice explores the lived side of care — not routines imposed from outside, but the quiet habits, observations, and rituals that emerge through repeated contact with the body over time.
These notes exist to ask how touch, material, rhythm, and attention shape the way we move through ordinary life.
